Living Local Guide | October 2026: Fall Favorites Around Charlotte & Fort Mill

October is one of my favorite months in the Carolinas. Cooler mornings, comfortable evenings and all the fall activities make it such a great time to get out and enjoy where we live. This month, I’m sharing a longtime Fort Mill favorite for local and seasonal finds, one of our family’s annual fall traditions, a big Oktoberfest celebration in Ballantyne, and a few more ways to enjoy the season around Matthews, Pineville and South Charlotte. For homeowners, I’ve also put together a Fall Home Maintenance Checklist you can save, print and use throughout the season. Here are a few ways to enjoy October around Charlotte and Fort Mill.

🍑 Brooke’s Favorite Find: The Peach Stand | Fort Mill

Some places just feel like part of the community, and The Peach Stand is definitely one of those places for me.

It’s somewhere I enjoy stopping throughout the year, but especially when the seasons begin to change. I love browsing the local products and seeing what seasonal flavors have arrived — and somehow I usually leave with more than I planned.

The Peach Stand has been a Fort Mill community market since 1980 and brings a lot together under one roof: fresh and locally grown produce, a custom butcher shop, bakery, restaurant and deli, ice cream parlor, and a local foods section filled with Carolina-made products.

Pro Tip: Give yourself a little extra time to browse. Some of my favorite finds are the things I wasn’t planning to buy when I walked in.

🍂 One of Our Fall Traditions: Anne Springs Close Greenway

One of the things I love most about fall in Fort Mill is having Anne Springs Close Greenway practically in our backyard.

The Fall Artisan Market is one we look forward to every year. It’s an easy way to spend a fall morning outside, browse local makers and small businesses, and enjoy one of our favorite places in Fort Mill. This year’s Fall Artisan Market is Saturday, October 3 from 9 AM–2 PM at the Greenway Gateway.

If you've never been, it's a great excuse to experience the Greenway while supporting local businesses at the same time. If you're already there, leave yourself some time to enjoy the Greenway itself. A walk around Lake Haigler or a stop at the Gateway Canteen makes it very easy to turn the market into a fall morning out.

🍺 Celebrate Fall at Mecktoberfest | Ballantyne

If Oktoberfest celebrations are more your speed, this is a big one. The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is bringing Mecktoberfest to its Ballantyne location for two weekends this October:

October 2–4
October 9–11

OMB begins its annual Mecktoberfest celebration at its original LoSo location in September before bringing the festivities south to Ballantyne for October. The Ballantyne weekends include German food, live music, games, steinholding competitions and, of course, OMB beer. Cocktails, cider, wine and other options are available too.

Expect Oktoberfest favorites like pretzels with beer cheese, sausage and schnitzel. OMB’s famous one-liter glass boots will also be available at Ballantyne beginning October 2 while supplies last. It’s a fun way to experience one of Charlotte’s biggest local brewery traditions without having to head all the way up to LoSo — and I love having an event of this size right here in Ballantyne.

🍁 A Little More Fall Fun Around South Charlotte

Fall for Matthews | Matthews, NC

Saturday, October 10 | 10 AM–4 PM
Stumptown Park | Downtown Matthews

Fall for Matthews brings a little fall-festival atmosphere to downtown Matthews with arts and crafts vendors, food, live music and a children’s area. The event is free and open to the public. It’s an easy excuse to spend a Saturday in downtown Matthews — enjoy the festival and leave some time to explore the surrounding shops and restaurants while you’re there.

Pineville Fall Fest | Pineville, NC

October 15–17
Jack D. Hughes Memorial Park | Pineville

The 28th Annual Pineville Fall Fest gives you three days to enjoy another classic fall community event:

Thursday, October 15 | 5–9 PM
Friday, October 16 | 5–9 PM
Saturday, October 17 | 10 AM–9 PM

Hosted by the Town of Pineville at Jack D. Hughes Park, it’s another easy fall outing for anyone in South Charlotte and the surrounding area.

🎃 Looking for Pumpkins? Try Simpson’s in South Charlotte

Not every fall outing needs to become an all-day trip to a farm. If you simply want to pick out pumpkins and seasonal décor for the porch, Simpson’s Pumpkins & Trees on Pineville-Matthews Road is an easy South Charlotte stop.

It’s a longtime, family-owned seasonal pumpkin lot rather than a destination farm, which is exactly what makes it convenient — a good option when you want the pumpkins and fall atmosphere without turning it into an entire day trip.

🏡 Get Your Home Ready for Fall

October is also a great time to take care of seasonal maintenance before cooler weather settles in. A few things worth checking around your home this month include servicing your furnace and replacing the filter, cleaning gutters and downspouts, inspecting your roof, sealing air leaks around windows and doors, checking the fireplace or chimney, and making sure your outdoor lighting is ready for shorter days.
